    Corrections & Evidence Updates

How this archive revises the record when stronger documentation becomes available.

The archive is a developing historical record. Names, dates, titles, locations, classifications, and descriptions may be corrected when stronger documentation becomes available.

Absence of documentation in the current archive does not by itself establish that an event did not occur.

Last substantively reviewed: September 6, 2026

A correction is made where documentation establishes that a published detail is wrong or that a stated classification is broader than the evidence supports. This covers the identification of persons, the dates and places of events, official and traditional titles, the attribution of a source, the evidence and corroboration status of a record, and the category under which a relationship is described.

Where two records in the archive disagree and the conflict cannot be resolved from the material presently held, the conflict is recorded and flagged for verification rather than silently resolved in favour of one version.

A submission is assessed against the archive's research and documentation standards and its methodology. Where the supporting documentation ranks above the source presently cited, the record is amended and the page's review date updated. Where it does not, the earlier account is retained and the new material noted. Quotations from outside publications are not rewritten; they remain as quotations, with any characterisation they contain identified as the publisher's.

Corrections are received through the enquiry form on the contact page, which records the submission directly with the Office. The published corrections address is corrections@kingdomofatooi.com. Please cite the archival identifier or the page address of the record concerned, state the detail said to be incorrect, and identify the documentation relied on.

No response time has been published; submissions are reviewed as the Office is able.

The following matters were identified in review and cannot be settled from records currently held by the archive. They are listed so that readers can see exactly where the documentation stops. Listing an item does not imply that the underlying account is false, and no item is treated as established until a source is held and cited.

    RFD-001Department of Finance & Technology
The department is named in the Kingdom's programme material, but the archive holds no instrument establishing it, no charter and no recorded officeholder.
Documentation sought: Founding instrument or appointment record for the department.
    RFD-002Office of International Relations
Described on the contact page as an internal Kingdom office. The archive holds no instrument establishing it and no outside accreditation.
Documentation sought: Founding instrument, and any correspondence acknowledging the office.
    RFD-003Appointment instruments for Kingdom offices
No appointment instrument is published for any office in the Government & Kingdom Structure register.
Documentation sought: Signed appointment or commission for each listed office.
RFD-004Genealogical links between Kamehameha I and the Kapuna custodians
Three links in the recorded line are held in the Royal Genealogical Record and are not published; the period they cover and the number of generations are not stated.
Documentation sought: Publication of the relevant genealogical entries, or a stated date range for the unresolved period.
RFD-005Chain of custody of the Kapuna Flag
The Kingdom records the flag as hidden after the 1893 overthrow and preserved across generations. Independent corroboration of the chain of custody has not been located in this archive.
Documentation sought: Contemporaneous or third-party record of the flag's keeping.
RFD-006Consort of the Aliʻi Moʻi — name variance
The consort is recorded under two different names in project records.
Documentation sought: Confirmation of the correct form of the name from the Office.
    RFD-007Photographs marked REQUIRES VERIFICATION
Five photographs carry conflicting dates or places across records: the Polynesian leaders group photograph, the First Nations exchange photograph, the Tahiti reception photograph, the Kauaʻi / ʻIolani flag-raising photograph and the United Nations Headquarters photograph.
Documentation sought: Original file dates, photographer records or event programmes.
    RFD-008Title variants for three individuals
Aleka Aipoalani, Gene Teves and Rodger Welch each appear with a longer and a shorter form of the same office.
Documentation sought: Confirmation of the preferred form of each title.
RFD-009Hawaiʻi plates within the 2012 Rapa Nui collection
Two plates in that collection were photographed at Aliʻiōlani Hale and on Oʻahu and carry no date of their own; whether they belong to 2012 is not recorded.
Documentation sought: Dates for those two plates.
    RFD-010Ceremonial journey entries shown provisionally
Where no journey record exists in the archive, the Aliʻi Nui page shows provisional entries. These are marked as provisional and are not sourced records.
Documentation sought: Journey records entered into the archive for each listed voyage.
    RFD-011Kingdom email addresses
A check of the kingdomofatooi.com domain found no mail records, so published Kingdom email addresses may not receive mail.
