    United Nations Record

This dossier assembles the material the archive holds concerning the Polynesian Kingdom of Atooi and the United Nations: documented activity at United Nations Headquarters, United Nations primary sources, the photographic record, correspondence, and the status and context of that material. Each entry states what the evidence establishes and no more. The United Nations has not extended recognition, accreditation, or consultative status to the Kingdom, and no United Nations source in this dossier states otherwise.

    Section I

    Documented UN Headquarters Activity

Activity recorded as having taken place at United Nations Headquarters. Each entry is described by the event that is documented — a press conference, attendance, or a presentation — and not by any status inferred from the venue.

    Documented by
United Nations Department of Public Information, News and Media Division — Meetings Coverage and Press Releases

    What is documented

    • A press conference concerning the Polynesian Kingdom of Atooi was held at United Nations Headquarters in New York on May 20, 2013, and was covered on the official United Nations press website.
    • The coverage was published by the Department of Public Information, News and Media Division, and remains available at press.un.org.
    • Aliʻi Nui Aleka Aipoalani of the Polynesian Kingdom of Atooi spoke at that press conference, at which the launch and presentation of the kala was announced.

    What this does not establish

    • The Kingdom holds no accreditation, consultative status or membership at the United Nations; the kala is not legal tender in any state.

The United Nations Department of Public Information published the coverage on the day of the press conference; it records the venue, the speaker and the statements made. Participation in, or use of, a United Nations venue does not by itself constitute recognition by the United Nations.

UNDRIP Article 3 and the 1893 Apology Resolution

    Verified

The United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), adopted by the UN General Assembly in 2007, affirms in Article 3 that "Indigenous peoples have the right to self-determination." The Kingdom's sovereignty claim is grounded in this right, read together with the 1893 overthrow addressed in the U.S. Apology Resolution (Public Law 103-150). Neither instrument names the Polynesian Kingdom of Atooi, and neither confers recognition upon it.

    Internal goals — nothing filed

The following are internal goals of the Kingdom, not a status held. Nothing below has been filed with, accredited by, or granted by the United Nations.

    01

ECOSOC Consultative Status — internal goal, not filed

The Kingdom intends to apply for NGO Consultative Status with the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). No application has yet been filed. Consultative Status is granted at the discretion of the ECOSOC Committee on NGOs following review, and this page will be updated with the application reference number once filed.

    02

UNPFII Participation — internal goal, not filed

The Kingdom intends to seek participation in the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII). The Kingdom has not to date registered as a participating indigenous organization for a UNPFII session; when that occurs, the session number and any interventions on the official record will be listed here.

    03

UNDRIP Article 3 submission — internal goal, not filed

The Kingdom intends to file a self-determination submission under UNDRIP Article 3 with the UN Human Rights Council and the Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (EMRIP). No submission has yet been filed. Any accepted submission will be published here with its OHCHR document symbol.

    04

    Bilateral engagement — ongoing

The Kingdom conducts cultural and ceremonial engagement with counterparts across the Pacific, including visits documented in French Polynesia, Rapa Nui, and Aotearoa. These are documented cultural relationships, not bilateral recognition by UN member states — no UN member state has to date extended formal state recognition to the Kingdom.
