Address Before the Ethics in Action Summit
In June 2018, Aliʻi Nui Aleka Aipoalani represented the Polynesian Kingdom of Atooi at the Ethics in Action summit convened at Casina Pio IV within Vatican City. The summit, convened by the Pontifical Academy of Sciences, gathered religious leaders, heads of state, scientists, and indigenous representatives to address questions of peace, ecological stewardship, and the rights of indigenous peoples.
The Aliʻi Nui addressed the assembly on themes of peace, forgiveness, indigenous sovereignty, the cleanup and protection of the Pacific Ocean, and sustainable development frameworks for island and oceanic peoples. His remarks emphasized reconciliation between historical powers and indigenous nations as the foundation for shared ecological and ethical stewardship.

In conjunction with the summit, the Aliʻi Nui took part in discussions on sustainable development models suited to the Pacific. Conversations addressed ocean stewardship, indigenous-led ecological governance, and frameworks for cooperation between sovereign island nations and international institutions.

Summit Outcomes
A New Framework of Global Sharing
The summit concluded with a call from its convening participants for the establishment of “a new framework of global sharing with indigenous peoples” — a guiding principle the Polynesian Kingdom of Atooi has continued to advance in its subsequent diplomatic and ceremonial engagements.
