Material of the modern Kingdom — its leadership, ceremonies, missions, agreements, correspondence, and Kingdom-issued instruments.
Historical Hawaiian Kingdom records document the institutions, laws, diplomacy, and governmental activity of the historical Kingdom. Their inclusion does not by itself establish the authority of any particular contemporary claimant. Contemporary claims of continuity, succession, genealogy, or authority are documented separately.
Section I · The Lineage
Now residing on the island of Kauaʻi
Kingdom records identify Aliʻi Nui Aleka Aipoalani as carrying the royal lineage of the Polynesian Kingdom of Atooi — the island of Kauaʻi, which was not taken by conquest by Kamehameha. Traditional genealogy records and the Kapuna, the elders who preserved the original Kingdom of Hawaii flag through the 1893 overthrow, are the sources given for his standing; the elders entrusted the flag to him to continue the Kingdom.
Customary authorities have recognized this custodianship, and the Kingdom holds its own record of it. Independent documentary corroboration of the individual generational links has not yet been located in this archive; absence of Western documentation is not treated here as evidence against a traditional genealogy.
Section II · The Flag
An original Hawaiian Kingdom flag was hidden by the Kapuna after the 1893 overthrow, preserved across generations of the Hawaiian royal lineage, and placed in the keeping of Aliʻi Nui Aleka Aipoalani, whom the Kapuna recognised as successor. Kingdom records are the source for this account; independent corroboration of the flag's chain of custody has not yet been located in this archive.
Section III · Decades of Legal Standing
The timeline below summarises documented court rulings, federal records, and reporting from publications of record. Each entry states its own procedural outcome; no claim is made about proceedings not listed here.
The Polynesian Kingdom of Atooi, as currently constituted, is formed on Kauaʻi under the custodianship of Aliʻi Nui Aleka Aipoalani. The 1990 date marks the modern organization and office; the ancestral claim it carries traces separately to the ruling line of Kauaʻi and the Hawaiian Kingdom before the 1893 overthrow.
During the Hawaii Superferry protests, the Aliʻi Nui's federal marshal badge is confiscated by the state of Hawaii.
A judge rules that the state cannot make surrender of the marshal badge a condition of a plea agreement.
Procedural outcome. The charge involved the marshal badge. The case ends in a no-contest plea and a $250 fine. No adjudication of PKOA sovereignty or jurisdiction occurred; the precise offense resolved must be identified from the court record.
PKOA-affiliated individuals conduct a private investigation whose information reaches a federal narcotics prosecution. The court treats them as private citizens and rules on the private-search doctrine; it makes no finding of federal recognition or jurisdiction.
Members are released within hours on $100 misdemeanor bail. The case is referred to the state Attorney General.
Charges were dismissed without prejudice on speedy-trial grounds. The dismissal was not an acquittal, a ruling on the allegations, or recognition of PKOA jurisdiction. The matter had been pending roughly 5.5 years across three Attorneys General.
The Royal Decree on Peace, Friendship and Diplomacy is signed by HM Aliʻi Nui and presented for record at a range of French Polynesian administrative, judicial, and customary offices in Papeʻete.

Section IV · Diplomatic Engagements
The Aliʻi Nui maintains ongoing dialogue with civic and customary leaders across Polynesia. In June 2025, a Royal Decree on Peace, Friendship and Diplomacy was carried to Papeʻete and presented to a range of French Polynesian administrative, judicial, and customary offices, where it was received and stamped for record. Indigenous elders and community leaders in Tahiti, Rapa Nui, and Aotearoa have received him in accordance with Polynesian custom.

Section VI · Biographical Record
Born of the royal lineage of King Kamehameha I and his first wife Pauahi, and raised in the customary care of the Kapuna, Aliʻi Nui Aleka Aipoalani has, for more than three decades, carried the offices, duties, and public record of the Polynesian Kingdom of Atooi — its constitutional order, its diplomatic voice, and its cultural stewardship.
The full biographical record is prepared as a living document of the Office of the Aliʻi Nui and expanded as new primary sources are archived.
