    Verifying an archive record

    1. Note the public document identifier printed on the record or reference copy.
    2. Open https://kingdomofatooi.com/archive/verify/followed by that identifier.
    3. Compare the title, classification, version, date and SHA-256 checksum shown there with the copy in hand. A matching checksum establishes that the copy is identical to the file held by the archive. It does not establish provenance, legal validity or recognition.
    4. If a record cannot be located, write to the secure inquiry form.

What a SHA-256 checksum does and does not establish

A SHA-256 checksum is a fixed-length fingerprint calculated from the exact bytes of a file. If two files produce the same checksum they are the same file; if a single character, pixel or byte differs, the checksum differs.

    It establishes

    • That the copy in hand is byte-for-byte identical to the file held by the archive.
    • That the published file has not been altered since the checksum was recorded.

    It does not establish

    • That the underlying document is authentic, or who created it.
    • Provenance, chain of custody, legal validity or effect.
    • Recognition of the Kingdom by any state or organisation.

Reporting impersonation or an altered document

If a document, seal, signature or website is presented as the Kingdom's and you doubt it, report it. Give the identifier printed on the copy where one appears, say where you encountered it, and describe what looks altered. Reports are received privately, are not published, and no person is named publicly as an impersonator. You may also write to the secure inquiry form quoting the identifier.

Similarly named sites are not automatically authorized

Websites, social accounts, publications or domains with similar names are not automatically authorized by the Polynesian Kingdom of Atooi. Authorization is established only by the Office of the Aliʻi Nui, and material published elsewhere is not part of this archive unless confirmed in writing by that office.
