The Aliʻi Nui is recognised within the Kingdom and by participating traditional chiefly authorities according to Polynesian genealogical and customary protocols. The Royal House maintains descent through lines associated with Kamehameha I, supported by custodial genealogy, oral transmission, chiefly attestation and traditional recognition; the complete archival chain has not yet been published in this public archive.

The Kingdom maintains that it is a sovereign Indigenous Polynesian kingdom, constituted under its own internal law, exercising customary authority derived from genealogy and from the standing of Kauaʻi, which entered the Hawaiian Kingdom by agreement rather than by conquest.

It further maintains continuity with the historical Hawaiian Kingdom and asserts jurisdiction over Kauaʻi and its associated island of Niʻihau. Those islands are administered in practice by the State of Hawaiʻi and the United States.

This is the status the Kingdom asserts. It is not a finding of any court or the position of any state.

Offices recorded as operating: the Office of the Aliʻi Nui and Royal Household; the Council of Ministers; the Office of International Relations, which carries external correspondence and engagement with the United Nations system; the Council of Cultural Advisors (Kahu); and the Marshal Corps, an internal institution established under the Kingdom's own law that holds no police powers and no authority conferred by any outside government.

A single consolidated founding or constitutional instrument, with its date of adoption: Not published in the current public record. The instruments the Kingdom publishes are its royal decrees, official statements and recorded accords, each carried with its date and archival identifier.

The Kingdom's position: no lawful act extinguished the Hawaiian state; the transfer of sovereignty effected by the 1898 joint resolution of the United States Congress, rather than by ratified treaty, is legally contested; and Hawaiian law therefore remains applicable under a theory of continuity and prolonged occupation. Related arguments are advanced by some scholars, lawyers and sovereignty advocates, who differ among themselves on who may act for the Hawaiian state.

The United States position: Hawaiʻi is a state of the Union; United States courts have rejected the continuity argument when raised as a defence; and the Supreme Court held in 2009 that the 1993 Apology Resolution created no substantive rights.

Neither position has been adjudicated in the Kingdom's favour by any court, and no organ of the United Nations has ruled on the claim. The Kingdom's continuity with the historical Hawaiian Kingdom is recorded here as an asserted position, not as an established finding. Historical Hawaiian Kingdom documentation does not by itself establish the authority of any particular present-day claimant.

2013 badge case: charges resolved by a no-contest plea with a $250 fine. A no-contest plea disposes of the charge; no court finding was made on the Kingdom's status, authority or jurisdiction.

2019 Office of Hawaiian Affairs matter: charges against six members dismissed without prejudice on speedy-trial grounds in September 2024. Dismissal on those grounds is a procedural outcome, is not an acquittal or a ruling on the allegations, and leaves the State free to refile.

Federal narcotics case CR No. 14-00032 DKW (D. Haw.): a private-search ruling in which the court treated the Atooi participants as private citizens and made no finding recognising their jurisdiction.

Kingdom-issued records are evidence of what the Kingdom has done or stated; they are not independent corroboration of it.

Every substantial record states what it establishes and what it does not establish, and carries a corroboration status. Traditional, oral and custodial genealogy is treated as a recognised Polynesian form of knowledge, recorded in its own category rather than measured against documentary genealogy.

Where a fact is not held, the archive says so rather than supplying a value. Reported errors supported by evidence are corrected and dated, and outstanding items are listed publicly in the register of material requiring further documentation.
